What we really do?

Mastep Limited was incorporated on 16th June 1995. On incorporation, Mastep Limited operated a general wholesale/retail business selling groceries on Saba Saba Road in Kayole from 1995 to 1999 and later in Komarock Estate from 1999-2000. The bookshop operation started at the Visions Place in Buruburu from December 2001 to April 2003 and moved to the current location of shop No. 6 in Gemuwa House (Buruburu) in April 2003. 

Following the Free Primary Education (FPE) in 2002, Mastep Bookshop opened the Meru branch in 2003 to serve schools in Meru County. The Nairobi and its metropolis districts of Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Mwingi, Kajiado and Kiambu were served from the Nairobi branch using commission agents as sales representatives. These were to close in 2006 in the interest of upholding business ethics and values. For the same reasons, the Meru branch also closed in 2010 leaving the Nairobi headquarter branch to serve the Nairobi metropolis with special focus on private schools (see Appendix i). Two key milestones for the book industry in Kenya include the curriculum change under the 8-4-4 system in 2002 to 2006 and the competency-based curriculum changed in 2019 and expected to be concluded by 2024.

We have since grown to become one of Kenya’s most recognized and successful off-line and online book stores serving a range of customers throughout Kenya.

Mastep Online Bookstore is a one-stop shop for books of a wide range of categories such as books for the Kenya school curriculum in preprimary, primary, secondary, post-secondary, self-help & motivational, religious & spirituality, fiction & non-fiction, business & management, African Literature as well as Kids & Teens.
